Annexation sought for Prior Station Road property looking at small development

Another round of development is being considered and will go before the City of Cedartown’s Planning and Zoning Commission on February 24 for a decision to move forward.

Members of the commission will hold a public hearing next Monday starting at 10 a.m. at city hall to hear a proposal to turn 12.12 acres of property on Prior Station Road into a PD-1 zone for developing, and annex it into the City of Cedartown.

City Manager Edward Guzman said that plans include 14 single family homes that would receive water service from the city, but require septic tanks for each residence since sewer lines do not carry far enough for a connection.

The zoning for the property is currently Industrial and sits just outside of the city limits, in between the high transmission power lines that cut across Prior Station Road and soccer fields operated by Raul Segura.

The Planning and Zoning Commission will decide if they let the project move forward to the next step: another public hearing and round of votes by the City Commission before it can be considered and the property be annexed into the city limits as a PD-1 zone.

Guzman noted that among the things that will be required by the city is a GDOT-approved roadway into the new development if they wish to be annexed into Cedartown proper.

The meeting next Monday also includes a public hearing and vote on a request for a variance on a Central Street property.

Check back for additional updates as they become available.
