State Rep. Trey Kelley is set to step down from his leadership as Majority Whip in the state house, but looks to retain his seat according to a tweet from a reporter with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution this evening.
In the tweet posted at 9:17 p.m., AJC Political Reporter Greg Bluestein said the following:
Georgia House Majority Whip @RepTreyKelley, one of the top Republicans in the statehouse, sent an email to colleagues tonight saying he’s stepping down from his leadership post. He confirms to me he’s still keeping his legislative seat. #gapol

The tweet has not yet been confirmed by State Rep. Trey Kelley, who was sought for comment about the posting but has not responded as of the time of this posting.
State Rep. Kelley, who was elected to the leadership role in 2018 and re-elected as Majority Whip in 2020, was indicted by a grand jury in December 2020 and arrested on a charge of misdemeanor reckless conduct.
Elected for a fifth time to represent the 16th District that includes Polk and portions of Haralson and Bartow counties in 2020, the Republican State Representative is expected to face a decision this month on whether a motion to quash the indictment against him following a June court hearing seeking to have the charge dismissed.
