A well-known actor who once spent several weeks on-set in and around the Cedartown area for a television series was found dead in his apartment on Monday, according to multiple news sources across the country.
The Associated Press reported that Michael K. Williams, 54, died in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York on Monday, September 6.
Williams, best known for his role as “Omar” through the five-season run of HBO’s The Wire, but was also in the IFC television series Hap and Leonard. He filmed along with others in Cedartown for the short-lived series’ third season in the fall of 2017 and transformed Main Street into a small Texas town in the Christmas season.
The beloved actor was found dead Monday afternoon by family members in his Brooklyn penthouse apartment on Monday, according to the Associated Press. An official cause of death had not yet been reported, but was being investigated as a possible drug overdose according to the NYPD, per the AP coverage.
His appearances on television and film include “12 Years a Slave,” “Assassins Creed,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and most recently “Lovecraft Country.”
