A Walk for Hope returns to Cedartown for the third year in a row

The third annual A Walk for Hope returned to Cedartown over the weekend on October 23 as a chance for people to come together and share in the knowledge that one day, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome won’t be a reason for parents to have the grieve the early loss of a child.

Dozens came out for the annual walk in downtown Cedartown, with members of the Cedartown Bulldogs, coaches, and a representative from First Candle, an organization dedicated to helping families who have suffered the loss of a child from SIDS and gathered at Holloway Park for the opportunity to share stories and light candles in memory of babies who have died without explanation.

The walk began as a way for organizer Niedra Chubb to help those sharing in her grief over the loss of her son Junior to SIDS, and has since evolved as a way to also reach out and help families locally and nationwide.

Chubb said she was thankful for the continued support of the community as she worked through the grief of her loss.

This year’s involvement with First Candle also came as a way for the Walk to help with a fundraising raffle still underway – tickets on sale through month’s end, with an announcement of winners to come online – as Niedra got some help from a famous family member in getting some items to raffle. Those include a Browns Nick Chubb jersey, a Jalen Hurts Alabama jersey, and a box of Chubb Crunch cereal among other items.

Earlier in the year, Nick Chubb launched Chubb Crunch cereal in partnership with PLB Sports & Entertainment, on sale in Heinen’s grocery stores and online. Proceeds from the sale of boxes of the cereal go toward First Candle, a foundation that is working to end Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and other sleep-related infant deaths as well as support families who have had a loss.

After the ceremony following the conclusion of the walk down Main Street on Saturday, vendors were also out providing an opportunity for attendees to make purchases as well, and get free items for helping new families.
