Eventually all good things must come to an end is the proverb told time and again to those who feel nostalgic for the good old days.

The statement is apt for this announcement: 2023 will mark the final Youth Summerfest event in Polk County.

Organizers announced that the 25th annual event which has for years been held at the Bert Wood Youth and Athletic Complex. Now this year following the break for Independence Day will be the final edition, but with the expectation that those who have contributed more than two decades of time will come up with a plan for something new in the future.

The event has been pushed up compared to the usual last weekend before the start of the school year, so set the calendar for July 8 for those who are seeking help with school supplies before the start of classes in early August. It’ll run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and provide as it has in the past opportunities for free school supplies, food, clothing closet, games, and this year will feature a corn hole tournament, door prizes and much more.

Clementine the Clown is also going to be featured at this year’s event, which has moved to Turner Street Park for 2023 and the final year.

Organizers are thankful to those businesses and churches who have participated and made donations – along with the City of Cedartown – for the help.

Though this is the final year of the Youth Summerfest, it won’t be the end of the work for all those who have helped make it happen.

Organizers of the program are expecting to be able to announce their plans in the future following Youth Summerfest 2023, but haven’t yet fully decided what will replace the event in the future.
