Willard Del Myers Jr. 74, Passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024.
Del was born March 30, 1950 in Polk County, Cedartown to Willard and Mavis Frasier Myers Blankenship. Del’s Dad moved to Cedartown when he was four years old and his Mother went to work at Harpst Children’s Home in Cedartown where she and Del spent many years working in the lives of children.
Ed and Mary Bowden were friends and co-workers and later moved to Omaha, Nebraska to become the Superintendent of Union Pacific. He talked Mavis in to moving to Nebraska and it opened a whole new world for Del.
Del loved trains and began working for Union Pacific, Burlington and Chicago North Western. All three operated numerous through routes and secondary corridors all across the state. The Burlington maintained three especially important routes (Omaha-Denver, Denver-Kansas City via southern Nebraska, and Kansas City-Montana/Wyoming that cut across the state) while Union Pacific’s main line headed due west for Salt Lake City. The C&NW was perhaps the most interesting.
The railroad had a major Chicago-Omaha route and a main line heading due west from Omaha to Lander, Wyoming. Del became a conductor and enjoyed every minute on the rails. Both families never forgot their love of Cedartown and moved back in the 1970’s. Del purchased the family farm on Chubbtown Road and began farming.
They were some of his happiest years until he suffered a stroke. Del spent his remaining years in Cedartown and passed away at The Cottages in Rockmart, GA., where he was loved and well known for listening to Dr. David Jeremiah and Dr. Charles Stanley.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Hopkins Myers, parents and grandparents William Bartlett and Emma Fricks Frasier, daughter, Cindy Starns Bentley, Uncle Wink Frasier. Del is survived by his stepson, Lance Bentley, daughter, Keri Lee Bentley; Uncle, Billy G. Frasier both of Cedartown, Cousins Glenda Frasier Wilson, Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, Letha Faye Frasier Lanier, Pigeon Forge, TN, Joyce Frasier McNish, Rossville, GA, Lynn Frasier Bedford, Cedartown, Johnny Frasier, Taylorsville, GA, Billy Frasier, Aragon, GA and David Frasier, Cedartown, GA.
