School campuses and the health department are closed, and a state of emergency has been declared across the state as another winter storm bears down on the southeast.

This time around, the Gulf Coast and a corridor south of I-20 are expected to get the brunt of snowfall, as four inches are expected to fall in an area from Texas to Georgia, and includes much of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

Above I-20, the forecast isn’t exactly clear on whether the area will get additional snowfall, but at least an inch of snow is expected to fall in the areas where a Winter Weather Advisory has been put in place, and reaches well into the Metro Atlanta corridor but stops short of the North Georgia mountains.

Polk, Paulding, and Haralson Counties are all in the advisory zone as of this morning’s update.

As a result, local schools announced closure plans last night to avoid issues in getting students home in the afternoon. Local health department also are closed, as well as campuses of Georgia Northwestern Technical College.

The Advisory began at 10 a.m., and continues through 7 a.m. Wednesday. Expect snowfall to begin – if any falls at all for the local area – to start this afternoon.

Temperatures today will remain below freezing and should provide plenty of cold for snow to stick, with a high of 31 on the day and a low of 9 overnight.

A cold weather advisory is in place tonight from 10 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday as well.

Check back for more as information becomes available on the latest winter storm advisory and impacts on the area.
