After one of the coldest starts of the year since 2014, the area is finally getting a little warmth as the opening month of 2025 is coming to a close.
NWS Peachtree City has temperatures today up to the mid 50s and overnight down into the mid 30s as the thermometer begins to rise with sunshine dominating the forecast through midweek.
But with the warmer temps also comes something else common during the winter months: rain.

After today’s sunshine and a high of 56 (down to 37 overnight,) the forecast calls for mostly sunny skies on Wednesday and a temp up to 63 on the day, and down to 38 overnight.
Then threats of rain start to come into play as the final days of January close out with temps in the mid to upper 60s, and chances of rain beginning on Thursday night (up to 30% currently.) Friday’s forecast calls for a 90% chance of rain and a high up to 67, and a low down to 41.
Sunshine returns for the weekend on Saturday and Sunday as February starts off on the warm side with highs in the mid to upper 60s and lows down into the 40s.
That will give the groundhogs in Pennsylvania and here in Georgia chance to see their shadow on Sunday, and go underground for six more weeks of winter hibernation. If Punxsutawney Phil or General Beauregard Lee (among others around the nation) doesn’t see their shadow, it might just mean an early spring.
Groundhog Day traditions date back to Pennsylvania Dutch immigrants in the 19th century bringing the superstition to the United States from Europe.
When next Monday rolls around, Polk County will enjoy sunshine and a high up to 69 on the day.
Expect temps for the first full week of February to remain in the 60s, and down into the 30s and 40s overnight.
