Localized street flooding has been reported in Rockmart as the National Weather Service updated their forecast and postings for the afternoon hours.

The latest update from the National Weather Service also includes a Tornado Watch through the afternoon put in place earlier. Additional rain from a tenth to a quarter inch is expected this afternoon, and potentially higher amounts with heavier thunderstorms. Showers and thunderstorms are expected through the rest of the afternoon and into the evening hours.

With that in mind, the NWS in Peachtree City placed Polk County under a Flash Flood Warning for the rest of the afternoon until 6:15 p.m. after heavy rain across North Georgia continued through the morning and into the afternoon hours.

Along with Polk, the NWS issued the warning for Paulding and Haralson counties as well.

A report from Mayor Sherman Ross of street flooding in Rockmart included on Wingfoot Street within the Goodyear Village the downtown area.

Update: another report was added that Springdale and Sherwood Morgan behind Van Wert Elementary is impassable due to high water as well.

Please do not attempt to cross flooded streets in your vehicle. There is a likelihood that it could be deeper than a vehicle’s tail pipe, causing a car to stall and thus require officials to rescue drivers during hazardous conditions.

Check back for additional updates as they become available.
