A chill is returning to the air later this week, but not before we get a couple of 70 degree days for December squeezed out of the last days of autumn.

Polk County’s high for today is set to be up to 70 degrees on the thermometer, and down into the 50s overnight as rain continues to threaten the area. Just a 30% chance of showers is in the forecast for the day, with decreasing chances overnight to 20%.

It’ll get wet on Wednesday for sure as the NWS meteorologists in Peachtree City call for an 80% chance of rain at midweek, and a high up to 73. It’ll start getting windy with the rain chances later in the afternoon, and stay that way heading into the nighttime hours.

Look for showers to end before it gets too late Wednesday night, but temps are going to take a turn downward once the rain moves out to 39 degrees.

Thursday’s high is up to 58, down to 33 overnight with sunshine dominating the forecast for the tail end of the week with cold temps expected heading into the weekend.

Winter will start feeling like winter as Friday’s forecast calls for a high of 54 and a low of 27, and much of the same for the weekend as Saturday and Sunday temperatures are set to remain in the upper 40s, and dip down into the 20s overnight.

Some foresight does allow for predictions for Christmas, and right now it looks like Polk is going to avoid winter weather for Santa’s visit and the celebrations following. The holiday forecast next week is expected to stick to around the 50s range, with lows down into the upper 30s and lower 40s.

Warmer weather is expected after Christmas before the start of 2025, but that could change with the shift in the forecast over the next few days.
