Enjoy it while it lasts, folks. The National Weather Service is calling for majority sunshine for the coming days and temps back up into the 40s and 50s before weekend temps get almost to barbecue weather before another major drop below freezing returns.

Polk County is enjoying a sunny day and a high around 50 – way warmer after a round of snow, ice and freezing temps left the area the need to thaw on Sunday – heading into a big warming trend going into the weekend.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid 40s and upward to the mid 50s through the rest of the week while overnight dips below freezing are forecasted overnight per the NWS Peachtree City meteorologists.

Chances of rain return at week’s end as a high up to 56 on the day, and overnight showers will greet a weekend where Saturday’s high is up to 58 with showers expected. But then winter’s frozen fury returns as the front moves out and leaves behind temps dropping back down into the 40s, and by MLK Day sit at 32 as a high and lows down into the teens.

The returning freeze should stick around through midweek following the holiday, and sit in the 40s range as January heads into the latter half of the month.
