Ah yes, cold has returned just in time for old man winter to show his face in Polk County.

The official start of the winter season is coming up on Saturday, and the thermometer is going to start dipping down toward the freezing end beginning today as the meteorologists in Peachtree City have the temperature for the day just up to 57, and down to 33 overnight. There’s a chance for some patchy fog and a calm wind blowing through Polk for the day.

Look for sunshine to dominate the forecast through the rest of the week and into the weekend as well as the chill continues, with the thermometer only reaching 54 on Friday and back down to 27 as a low. It’ll get down into the upper 40s and down into the 20s overnight this weekend, and the holiday week will start with temps up into the lower to mid 50s and down into the 30s and 40s overnight.

Santa could be taking his famous ride over Polk County with some wet weather possible for Christmas Eve night into Christmas morning, with a slight chance of showers and a low of 40. The Christmas Day forecast continues with chances of showers and mostly cloudy skies, and a high of 58.

The good news? Anyone traveling for the holidays out of Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta this weekend shouldn’t face delays due to weather here. Additionally, no snow is in the forecast for Polk during the holidays this year as well. (Sorry for those hoping for a White Christmas…)

Other areas of the country could enjoy snow for Christmas is the Rocky Mountains and Northwest in central Oregon and Washington, and on Christmas Eve some snow in the Northeast. But more than likely? Good chances of rain for the Mississippi, Tennessee and Ohio River valleys and dry across the rest of the country.

Expect the forecast to change by the weekend as rounds of systems push through portions of the nation and cause this entire portion of the post to become moot.
