A sad update to report this afternoon on the condition of Sgt. Barry Henderson, who ahead of his transfer Tuesday to the University of Florida Shands Hospital took a turn for the worse.

Chief Deputy Jonathan Blackmon reported that the transfer was called off on Tuesday and his condition today remains the same. Blackmon said that Henderson’s condition – which had been stable but still required help breathing from a ventilator – was battling renal, or kidney, failure.

He additionally is now suffering from additional complications that required the transfer to Shands Hospital by Air Ambulance off for now.

“Please continue to lift Barry, Chrisy and family in prayer,” Blackmon said. “It’s very touch-and-go now.”

Henderson was first hospitalized in January for COVID-19, and then his condition worsened and required him to be on a ventilator at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.

After weeks without any improvement, Henderson’s wife Chrisy turned to WSB-TV for help after she told reporters there that Northside Hospital was not providing any different treatment options. His condition had begun to improve enough that the University of Florida Shands Hospital – one of many around the nation undertaking various treatment options for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.



Several fundraisers remain underway to help Henderson’s family while he remains in the hospital in Atlanta.
