Georgia State Patrol provided additional details on how Thomas Cody Tanner ended up in critical condition following his wreck early Tuesday morning.
According to their report provided to Polk.Today late Wednesday evening, Tanner was traveling on Highway 27 in the northbound lanes two-tenths of a mile north of Grogan Road while driving toward the Cedartown area.
The report stated that Tanner’s 2001 Jeep Wrangler was traveling in the left lane and drifted off the roadway. Tanner tried to maneuver back into the lane, but struck a culvert in the median on the left side and flipped the Jeep three times.
Tanner was ejected from the vehicle before it came to a stop in the southbound lane. He was found on the other side of the guard rail by two witnesses who came upon the wreck traveling south when the wreck occurred.
When the pair came upon the wreck, they got out to check Tanner’s condition and call 911 for help.
Per the report, Tanner was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital and his last known condition he remained in critical condition.
The GSP also confirmed the discovery of firearms at the crash site, and that Polk County Police took them into custody and placed them into evidence. Tanner had one firearm on his person, and another in the vehicle at the time of the wreck.
Tanner is accused of being the sole suspect in an aggravated assault in Silver Creek on Monday afternoon, May 31 after he accused a man at a Pleasant Valley Road residence of infidelity with his estranged wife.
Following that, he made threats against the lives of Polk County Probate Judge Tony Brazier, Tallapoosa Circuit Superior Court Chief Judge Meng Lim, his wife, and any law enforcement officers who tried to interfere with his plans.
Floyd and Paulding SWAT teams had been in the process of staging a raid of his home on Lee Road when the call came into 911 about the wreck.
