Polk School District Superintendent Dr. Katie Thomas categorically denied that her husband Jonathan Thomas – who serves as an assistant football coach for Rockmart High School – is a candidate for the Cedartown High School football head coach position.

She provided the following statement:

“While we normally don’t comment on personnel, I feel the need to say that this is absolutely categorically false. The job is open for candidates to apply at this time. However, I can absolutely confirm that Jonathan Thomas is not an applicant as reported in this egregious and disappointing article.”

The statement comes after a Coosa Valley News article (which I will not provide a link for at all) was published this morning a story that Jonathan Thomas was the lead candidate for the coaching job, but without any source or attribution to back up the claim.

Cedartown’s head coaching position came open last week when Coach Jamie Abrams was dismissed from the role and transferred to Youngs Grove Elementary School to serve as a Physical Education teacher. Abrams served for five years as the head coach, winning three region titles and leading the team to a 2022 state title game.

The Board of Education holds their upcoming regular session at 4 p.m. in the Board Meeting Room at the Central Office on South College Street in Cedartown.
