Mrs. Shirley A. Leatherwood Swift, age 76, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 15, 2023, at her residence.
Shirley was born in Taylorsville, GA, on May 31, 1946, a daughter or the late L.E. Leatherwood and Wilma Waits Leatherwood.
She had lived all her life in Polk County and was a housewife and homemaker. Shirley loved her church, New Liberty Baptist Church, and Bellview Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking care of them. Shirley also enjoyed going shopping.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Griffin Swift, a daughter, Amber Deann Swift, and a brother, Michael Leatherwood.
Shirley is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Brother Billy Swift, whom she married June 30, 1961; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Deneen Swift of Rockmart; three grandchildren, Whitney (William) Locklear of Rockmart, Kirsten (Dave) Burgess of Rockmart, and Blane (Taylor) Swift of Villa Rica, GA; five great-grandchildren, Layla and Carson Locklear, Boone and Briar Burgess, and Leena Mae Swift. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held Saturday afternoon, March 18, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. in the Bellview Baptist Church with Rev. Anthony Osborn and Deacon Michael Johnson officiating. Eulogies will be provided by Jeff Swift and Kirsten Burgess. Interment will follow in Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Shirley’s family will receive friends at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home Friday evening, March 17, 2023, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will include Dave Burgess, William Locklear, Blane Swift, Dale Lee, Darrell Lee, and Chase Robinson, Nick Leatherwood, and Shane Leatherwood. Honorary pallbearers will include Jackie Purser, David Purser, William Purser, and Mark Purser.
