A Tallapoosa man was booked on Monday after Rockmart Police delved into threatening text messages and his attempt to impersonate a federal officer.
Detectives took out warrants and brought Eric Dennis Knott, 42, of a Tallapoosa address into custody on Monday on a felony charges of impersonating a public officer or employee and terroristic threats and acts.
He was later released on a $10,000 bond on the two charges.
Knott was accused by Rockmart Police of attempting to impersonate an FBI agent in threatening texts he sent to an individual who brought them to the attention of law enforcement.
Due to the nature of the texts, they got passed along to investigators who ended up checking with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to see if Knott was actually an employee, and learned the authorities knew nothing about him.
Police did not report any incident after he was taken into custody.
