A Rockmart Police Officer is thus far believed to be uninjured after a truck pulling a trailer collided with the front end of her police cruiser, according to Chief Randy Turner.

Traffic is blocked at Piedmont Avenue and Elm Street this afternoon and will be for the time being until the Georgia State Patrol arrives to further investigate the scene. Those who are traveling in that direction will have to detour around the area using Goodyear Avenue.

Turner said that according to details understood thus far, the truck was trying to turn wide right off of South Piedmont Avenue at Elm Street at the same time that Officer Lindsey Stewart was also trying to turn right in the correct lane, and the truck’s trailer ran into the front end of the police cruiser and was stuck.

Officer Stewart was hurt at all, but was stuck inside the police cruiser until officials were able to help get her out after the trailer caused to her be stuck inside.

Turner said Officer Stewart will be further checked by emergency personnel, but seemed to be fine on the scene.
