A lot of people and businesses are stepping up to help the Rockmart Police Department raise money to get their own K-9 officer for the city, and they are already more than a third of the way to their goal as they also have new items in to sale to help increase that total.

The Rockmart Police Department is offering keychains, lanyards and t-shirts for sale as part of the fundraising effort for the K-9 officer. T-shirts are priced at $25, keychains are $9 and the lanyards are $9. They are available to purchase at the Rockmart Police Department’s front window for anyone interested in helping with the program.

“Please consider supporting this program. It has been proven year after year how a K-9 unit benefits the citizens. K-9 units are crucial in helping to get illegal drugs off of our streets, locating missing persons, and are regularly used to apprehend wanted criminals,” a release about the sale stated.

Chief Randy Turner previously reported that the department is about a third of the way to their goal to fully fund the program – including purchase of the dog, equipment, vet visits, food and much more – through the help of private donations, organizations and business contributions already.

Those businesses that have already participated include the Polk County Rotary Club, Modern Woodmen of America, K9 Grooming, Precious Paws, Smart Mart Ahmed786 LLC( a collective owner of several Rockmart Businesses,) Mac’s Bakery, Holland Fertilizer Company, Pizza Depot, Raceway, Garden Inn & Suites, Western Inn, Dairy Queen, Rockmart Express 101, Handy Andy, HWY 113 Express Stop, Integrity Realty Group, El Nopal Rockmart and the Nathan Dean Agency.

Assistant Chief Jonathan Fuller said that the department is planning to “meet or exceed our target on funds” with the help of the community at-large.

“A huge thank you and God Bless also to all of the individuals who have gave,” he added.
