Cedartown residents will want to take note now and plan accordingly for the day: John Hand Road will not be accessible for a few hours on Wednesday morning.
The city received a request from Georgia Power to shut down the road while they complete work on poles and lines along the route for a three hour window.
City officials will be shutting down the street starting at 8 a.m., and expected it to open it back to traffic around 11 a.m. – depending on the time it takes to complete the work.
The closure will cut off access from College Circle to Cave Spring Road (past the three way stop and the turn onto North College Drive.)
Residents will want to use potential detours around the area with the following routes:
- Avoid hassles and take North Main Street past West John Hand Road and take Jule Peek Avenue back toward College Street/Cave Spring Road corridors.
- Take Cave Spring Road to Jule Peek Avenue as a potential detour route.
- Utilize College Circle/North College Street around the lake and return to Jule Peek Drive
Residential traffic on the other side of College Circle will still have limited access to the closure point. Those residents along John Hand Road should plan accordingly around the shutdown.
City officials learned of the closure late in the afternoon, and apologize for any inconvenience it might cause residents for the short notice.
