Mr. Richard Lamar Camp

On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, Richard Lamar Camp, age 76, peacefully passed away. He was encased in the love of his devoted family as they gathered to be with him as he departed. He was the son of the late William Henry Camp and Della Holloway Camp.

Richard is survived by his son Rick Camp (Amy), his daughters Beth Wade (Danny) and Jill Wilkey (Blake) his grandchildren Mallory Wade, Barrick Wade, Micah Wade, Ashton Wilkey, Braxton Wade, Lee Camp, Davis Wilkey, Will Camp and Miles Wade and his sister Dean Yarbrough.

He attended West Rome High school and developed many lifelong friendships along the way. For many years Richard worked as a technician for AT&T. He was brilliant at his chosen field of work, and he knew the balance of working hard and playing harder.

He was an amazing tennis and golf player and was nearly impossible to beat. Richard’s opponents, however, never felt like sore losers, because after the game Richard would have everyone nearly breathless as they laughed at his jokes and comical expressions.

Richard loved wearing hats, and everyone who knew him would be hard-pressed to find a picture in which he wasn’t wearing a hat from his varied collection. He was simply a pleasure to be around. He loved people and they loved him.

He always had an easy smile and would regale everyone with stories of his camping trips, while simultaneously jokingly showing everyone what a great dancer he was.

A decade before its invention, Richard made an ab roller for himself! He would take the small device with a handle on each side and roll it on the floor to keep his abs in shape. In later years he gave it to a friend who was recovering from surgery

Richard just made everyone around him happy. He could make everyone laugh with just a look. Richard’s laughter often entered a room before he did, and he’d be smiling as soon as you saw his face. Richard was a friend to everyone that came across his path, leaving an imprint of joy behind him everywhere he went. He will be missed beyond what words can express and his friends and family long for the day they can be with him again.

The family has chosen cremation at this time and will hold a Memorial Service on Sunday, February 19 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home Chapel from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

Parnick Jennings Sr. – Good Shepherd Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements.
