Rev. Matthew Marion Stringer, Sr., age 85 of Rockmart, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2022.
Rev. Stringer was born May 17, 1937 in Rockmart, son of the late John Lee Stringer and the late Mary Anne Williams Stringer. He was a high school graduate and a veteran of the United States Army and Air Force. Mr. Stringer worked in the manufacturing industry.
He was of the Pentecostal faith and preached on Monday nights at 7:30 p.m. on WZOT Radio. He enjoyed reading and writing notes in the Bible and working on cars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, John Otis Stringer and Brian Stringer; two sisters, Mary Ann Pirkle and Annie Sue Hembree; three brothers, Robert Stringer, Johnny Stringer and R.B. Stringer.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Elaine Glass Stringer; four sons, James Kenneth Stringer, Clinton Stringer, Matthew Marion Stringer, Jr. and Jason Lee Stringer (Melissa) all of Cartersville; sister, Margie Hembree; brother, Donny Stringer; six grandchildren, Kayla Stringer, Tyler Lee Stringer, Joshual Lee Stringer, Samantha Stringer, Dustin Stringer and Jenna Stringer; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral graveside services for Rev. Stringer will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sardis Methodist Church Cemetery. The Brown-Wright American Legion Post 12 Honor Guard will provide military honors.
The family will receive friends at the Freeman Harris Funeral Home on Wednesday prior to the service from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
