REPORT: Woman tried to use false name during traffic stop, two charged

Polk County Police charged a man and woman who tried to tell officers that the woman was someone she wasn’t and ended up in handcuffs for the lie.

Officers arrested Jerrell Ross Reddish, 51, and Rhonda Renee Simpson, 50, both of a Cedartown address, after they were stopped in the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 18, 2025 during a traffic stop at the Bee Rite Convenience Store. Police pulled over Reddish – who was behind the wheel – for a possible window tint violation.

When questioning Reddish, Simpson and a third passenger in the back, officers got their information and began to run them through state and federal crime information databases. Police were able to find Reddish and the third passenger without a problem, but the name that Simpson initially gave didn’t show up at all.

In fact, the name Simpson gave happened to be the wife of someone he was familiar with, and let Simpson and Reddish know that their attempt to conceal her identity had failed.

Simpson was reported to have told police she saw someone tell police a false name during a movie, and thought it would work.

Both Simpson and Reddish were taken into custody without incident. Following a search of Simpson’s purse, police found Gabapentin pills that weren’t in her name.

Simpson was charged with misdemeanors for possession of dangerous drugs and giving a false name, date of birth or address to a law enforcement officer. She remained in custody as of this posting on a $2,000 bond.

Reddish was charged with obstruction of law enforcement officers and remained in custody as of this posting on a $1,400 bond.
