A Maryland man remained in jail today after being arrested on early Wednesday morning after he was caught driving over 100 mph on Highway 278 before making it to Rockmart, according to reports.

Per the report, police arrested Zachary Edwin Wainaina, 19, of a Baltimore, Maryland address, told officers when he was finally stopped in his 2013 Toyota Corolla at the BP on Highway 101 in Rockmart that he had been awake for 24 hours.

Officers initially thought he might be a DUI offender after he passed an officer going 95 mph on Highway 278 near the intersection with Yorkville Highway heading westbound, and exceeded speeds of 100 mph while passing motorists. He also nearly ended up in the median at least once.

His vehicle was turned over to another driver. Police took Wainaina into custody without further incident.

He remained in the Polk County Jail as of this posting on a $1,960 bond.
