A Rockmart man remains in the Polk County Jail after warrants were taken out last week after he turned himself at the jail following a domestic assault, according to police reports.

Darius Woolfork, 32, of a Pearl Street address in Rockmart, was taken into custody on Tuesday on felony and misdemeanor warrants for aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the third degree.

According to Rockmart Police reports, Woolfork was accused by a victim of being struck on the right hand with the butt of a shotgun several times, and struck her in the neck with the barrel of the weapon while holding a 15-month-old child.

The victim was able to flee and ran to Van Wert Elementary School, where she met a friend and called police when the incident occurred on May 25 in the early morning hours.

Police reported that when the victim and friend tried to drive away from the area, but Woolfork caught up in his own car and tried to block the exit of the school, and held up a witness in another vehicle as well. The friend was able to maneuver around Woolfork’s car and made it to the Polk Motel, where the pair called police for help.

A week later, Woolfork turned himself in on the pair of warrants.

He remained in jail as of this posting with no bond set as of the morning on June 2.
