Rockmart Police took a local man into custody after he was spotted at a motel, found with at least one pill, and ultimately remains in jail on felony charges following the weekend.

James Edwin Morris, 50, of 1049 Springdale Road, Rockmart, was taken into custody on April 2 by Rockmart Police on a warrant service for an aggravated stalking charge, and possession of a Schedule II controlled substance.

According to Rockmart Police reports, Morris was spotted by an officer last Friday night while on patrol outside the Western Inn, and when he was approached went willing with the officer who had several previous encounters with Morris.

During the incident, Morris was ordered several times to keep his hands out of his pockets.

When police searched Morris, they found why he was so reluctant to keep his hands where they could be seen. Morris was found with a single pill of M365, a mix of acetaminophen and hydrocodone.

Morris was also found with $2, some loose change, and a flashlight which were turned over to another individual without issue.

Morris was taken to the Polk County Jail where he remained on those charges this morning. His bond was denied on the latest charge.

Morris was previously booked just over a week ago on March 25 and later released on a $1,000 bond for a misdemeanor battery charge under the family violence act.
