Kevin Dean Jackson

A Rockmart man who called 911 multiple times over a day remains in jail on just a single charge on bail today, according to Polk County Police reports.

Kevin Dean Jackson, 47, of 51 Crayton St., Rockmart, was jailed by Polk County Police on Saturday, April 24 following 24 hours of multiple calls to 911 operators.

According to the report, Jackson was charged with three counts of Misuse of 911, a misdemeanor charge. The Polk County Jail had him booked on a lone charge, and his bond was set at $500.

Operators heard from Jackson continuously during a night shift, and at least four more times during a dayshift over the weekend.

Jackson was taken into custody without incident. He remained in jail this morning on his bond.

Readers will note that any call to 911 that isn’t an immediate emergency – for instance, when people have been reported to call during severe weather and winter weather situations to determine what stores might be open or restaurants – is illegal.

Calls to 911 without an immediate emergency will potentially find an individual charged with a misdemeanor and possibly more depending on the severity of the issue they have caused.

Though multiple lines are available for 911 operators to answer at the center at the Emergency Management Agency building for Polk County, it is not a limitless supply. Those who call and tie up dispatchers with unnecessary calls can interfere with actual emergency situations and getting first repsonders to a scene quickly.

Jackson was previously arrested on February 28 when he threatened neighbors and was found by police carrying a broom handle and was ultimately detained by police on multiple charges including obstruction of law enforcement officers.
