Railroad workers have a crossing on West Avenue closed until at least “tomorrow” per City Manager Edward Guzman as repair work is underway.

The crossing just past the intersection at Furnace Street was expected to be repaired in the past months, but officials finally began the work today despite rainy weather that continued this afternoon.

The roadway will be closed until the work is completed.

Detours are setup around the Goodyear Park turn onto Prior Street and comes back out on Furnace Street for those seeking to get around the road closure. Additionally, Canal Street to Second Street is an option to detour around the work.

It is the second crossing repaired so far this year in Cedartown, after the Prior Street crossing near the Goodyear Civic Center was also recently redone by railroad maintenance personnel.
