Cedartown Firefighters joined others across the area and country today remembering those who lost their lives 23 years ago.
They brought out their largest American flag from their ladder truck just across the street from the fire department and turning on the weather warning siren four times for a minute to honor those who died when planes crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and crashed into a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.
The fourth plane meant to hit Congress was forced to crash into the field after passengers onboard United Flight 93 overtook hijackers to keep the tragic events of the day from a worse outcome.
Wednesday’s remembrance at the Fire Department saw the weather warning sirens turned on at 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., 9:37 a.m. and 10:03 a.m. – the times when planes hit the World Trade Center, Pentagon and crashed into the field in Pennsylvania.
Previously, students from Polk School District have participated in the remembrance ceremony.
