UPDATE:

One little bit of damage happened in Cedartown from stormy weather at a local restaurant.

Cedartown Fire and Rescue were called out to Zorba’s this afternoon when their signage outside of the restaurant blew over.

The area around the signage was blocked off, and Zorba’s remains open for business this evening.

No injuries or major damage has thus far been reported due to the high winds and thunderstorms that blew through Polk County today.

Power outages are still a problem in Polk. A new one in Antioch was added to the Power Outage Map since the last update, with 332 customers out. That brings the total closer to 1,000 without power in total around the Polk County area.

The stormy weather didn’t last for long, but the power going out for customers around Polk County might take longer to fix than the wind and rain that knocked it out.

Georgia Power is reporting that at least 400 customers are without power in spots across Polk County, including several spots within the city limits of Rockmart. At least 200+ of the customers without power in the county is concentrated around the Rockmart area at this time.

No estimates on when power will be restored were reported at this time.

Polk County EMA officials did have some minor roadway flooding in the Rockmart area.

As the cold front pushes past and storms move into the metro Atlanta area and beyond, behind them is a drop in temperatures. Polk already reached a high in the mid 70s with sunshine peeking out briefly, but expect lows down into the 40s tonight.

The wind advisory remains in place until 11 p.m.
