Bond was denied for a Cedartown man who was sought by police on warrants, and ultimately is facing multiple drugs and weapons charges on top of what he was already charged with previously, according to reports.
Cedartown Police arrested Keric Omar King, 21, of a Gibson Street address, and Shykeria Atia Harris, 22, of a Blanche Road apartment last week on January 10 after police became aware that King was staying at the apartment, and came knocking in the middle of the night.
Police woke Harris up and asked if King was in the apartment, and first denied he was there but after officers heard movement upstairs, she pointed to the second floor. Police took King into custody without further incident.
While they were asking for King’s whereabouts, police noted they smelled marijuana and decided to secure the apartment and get a search warrant. Officers got that warrant, and when they went through the residence they found three firearms – an AR-15 and two handguns – marijuana packaged for sale, a single oxycodone pill, more than $3,600 in cash, multiple magazines for the pistols and assault rifle, digital scales, ammunition and a suppressor.
Initially King denied any of the items were his, and both he and Harris were arrested on multiple charges including possession of a sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon or silencer, possession of marijuana, manufacturing/deliver/distribution of marijuana, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, possession of firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, possession of a controlled substance – marijuana (felony) and possession, manufacture, distribute, etc. a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of schools (2 counts.)
King later called officers over to the jail and took responsibility for all the items, and that “she (Harris) did not know and was unaware of all the items that were in the house.”
Officers then went and questioned Harris. She told police she was completely unaware the items had been moved into her apartment, had no idea where the money or the marijuana had come from, and especially had nothing to do with the guns.
Harris told officers that she had gone to bed and the items were moved in while she was sleeping and before police came knocking on her door in the middle of the night last week.
Harris was also charged with multiple counts when arrested, and released on a $4,500 bond.
King remains in the Polk County Jail with bond denied on the multiple charges including warrants he previously faced for his arrest.
