Tyjah Jhanard Howell

A Dalton man was taken into custody in Whitfield County and brought back to Polk County stemming from an April 2020 armed robbery, according to Polk County Police Detective B. Brady.

Det. Brady reported that he took out warrants last year on Tyjah Jhanard Howell, 21, of 877 Authum Court, Dalton, on felony charges of criminal attempt to commit a felony, aggravated assault, reckless conduct, armed robbery, possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, pointing or aiming gun or pistol at another, discharge of firearms on or near public highway or street, criminal damage to property in the first degree, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Brady said victim and witness testimony brought about the charges from an April 30, 2020 incident where Howell is alleged to have joined the victim and a woman for a ride and drove to the area of Liberty and Powell Streets in Cedartown outside of the city limits. Howell was reported to have gotten out of the truck, then went down a dirt road to relieve himself before he turned on the victim afterward, pulled a pistol on him and demanded all that he had.

The victim was reported to have given up 5 rolls of $10 in quarters, and gold coins before Howell fled in another vehicle and fired several shots at the victim and a woman, who was injured by Howell.

Howell was booked into the Polk County Jail on Tuesday after being taken into custody by Whitfield County officials. His bond was denied.
