Family members who got into a fight with one another were both jailed on Monday morning, according to Polk County Police reports.

Christopher Lee Bush, 24, and April Joy Bussey, 42, both of a Cherokee Road address, were taken into custody by Polk County Police on Monday around 10:20 a.m. after officers were called out following a complaint of a domestic altercation between the pair.

Bussey, who is Bush’s aunt, told officers that he had broken into her closet and car and that sparked an altercation between the pair, that included a complaint by Bush of being assaulted.

Bush told officers that Bussey’s boyfriend had been over earlier and got his belongings out of the closet and the car.

The altercation became serious enough that Bush was cut on his throat by a knife, and he also threw a flower pot at Bussey’s car. A witness reported that Bussey had been responsible for cutting Bush with the knife. She later told police that Bush had run into the knife during the altercation, and she “never actually cut Christopher’s neck.”

Police could not positively identify the knife used that left Bush with a 3-inch cut on his throat.

Bussey was taken into custody on an aggravated assault charge and remained in the Polk County Jail with bond denied on the charges. Bush was charged with a misdemeanor criminal trespass charge as well and remained booked on a $2,000 bond.

While both were being arrested, another family member was reported to have arrived after noticing the police on surveillance cameras at the home. The relative told police the pair “need help because of drugs.”
