A laundry list of charges were piled up against a suspect behind the wheel during a chase on Monday evening, and a passenger was charged as well according to information from the Polk County Police.

The PCPD Facebook Page posted the following about the chase this morning:

Dear Goodyear Village,

We would like to apologize for waking ya up last night. Around 21:14, our Patrol Officers attempted to stop a red Nissan Altima in the area of Atlanta Highway for a traffic violation.
Apparently Free Bird was playing from the skies last night, because the driver (later identified as Clayton Earwood – 26 year old male) began to drive like he’s the leading role in the Smokey & the Bandit remake 🇺🇸.

The pursuit continued out onto Highway 278, and then the Tour De Polk County commenced. The pursuit traveled all the way out to Highway 278 / Bethlehem Road, and eventually back to the City of Rockmart 🚗💨.

The pursuit ultimately ended on Vinson Mountain Road when the suspect vehicle wrecked. Mr. Earwood & the passenger (Macy James – 28 year old female) were taken into custody without incident. Both subjects were evaluated by EMS on scene.

❗️Mr. Earwood was charged with a slew of traffic violations, Obstruction of Law Enforcement (M), and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (F).❗️Ms. James was charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (F).

We would like to say that whoever taught the good people of the Goodyear Village to video as good as you do, thank you. I don’t even know if our Patrol Captain is going to have to review the camera footage since he probably already saw it last night on the Vent Page 😂.

👉🏼 Pro tip: If you run from the Polk County Police Department, we will chase you. You will go to jail.

Be good or be good at it, Polk County 💙

Polk Today was able to get some additional information prior to the completion of the report on the chase.

According to officials, the pair were initially being stopped by police for a headlight violation and reckless driving, and the chase initiated from those charges.

Earwood is facing a much longer list of warrants (he is in custody, but his booking has not yet been completed per the Sheriff’s Office, and due to privacy reasons as a suspect we can’t report at this time.)

Those include: 40 counts of failure to stop at a stop sign, 3 counts of driving on the wrong side of the roadway, headlight requirements, 8 counts of reckless conduct, a seatbelt violation, obstruction, fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving, failure to yield for highway construction vehicle or person, driving through a safety zone, suspended license, failure to yield for an emergency vehicle, two counts of obedience to a traffic control device and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

James as the passenger only faces felony charges for possession of a firearm by convicted felon or first offender and a parole violation charge.
