If the skies look hazy and the air smells like a campfire, don’t worry: nothing is on fire close by.
Officials from the Polk County Emergency Management Agency noted late this afternoon that smoke – especially in the area of western Polk County – is being brought to local’s attention after a controlled burn is ongoing across the state line in Alabama.
EMA officials stated that several calls have come in about the smoke, but note that nothing locally is on fire and don’t want residents to be concerned.
Look for the potential for smoke to clear out during the overnight hours as the National Weather Service calls for a slight breeze around 5 mph, and clear skies overnight as temperatures drop to near freezing again to 37.
The forecast on Tuesday calls for winds between 5 to 10 mph.
