Mrs. Jean Bentley, age 73, of Cedartown, GA passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2021.

Jean was born October 13, 1947 in Apopka, Florida to the late Morton Tarte and the late Opal Christmas Tarte. She spent her childhood in Florida and then moved to Cedartown in 1964. She was a graduate of Cedartown High School.

Jean received her bachelor’s degree at Southern Adventist University. Jean became a Master Gardener, loved horses and enjoyed volunteering at The Good Neighbor Center Food Bank here in Cedartown. She was a member of the Cedartown Seventh Day Adventist Church. Jean enjoyed making peanut butter fudge and going to the beach where she spent time with her family.

She was a Supervisor at the Department of Family and Children’s Services where she retired after working thirty years.

In addition to her parents, Jean was predeceased by her sister, Frances Hale and her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Bill and Laura Bentley.

Survivors include her husband, Jerome Bentley, Cedartown, to whom she was married August 31, 1969; son, Jason Bentley and his wife, Kelly, Cedartown; daughter, Jody Smith and her husband, Donnie, Cedartown; five grandchildren: Cynthia Casey, Rodney Smith, Jake Bentley, Rhys Smith, Rhyder Smith; sister, Nancy Atcheson, Durham, NC; cousin, Robbie Ferrell, Apopka along with several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held Friday, February 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Greenwood Cemetery in Cedartown, Georgia with Pastor Sam Ball officiating. Social distancing guidelines will apply and masks are recommended.

The following will serve as pallbearers: Rodney Smith, Jake Bentley, Rhys Smith, Rhyder Smith, David Collins and Don Westlake. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Nutt and Chuck Coleman.

The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and memorial donations be made to The Good Neighbor Center Food Bank.
