Mr. Carroll Douglas “Doug” Collins

Carroll Douglas “Doug” Collins passed through the pearly gates on July 12, 2021. Mr. Collins was born in Owensboro, Kentucky on July 30, 1944 to the late Martin Woodrow Collins and the late Frances Winstead Collins.

Mr. Collins graduated from Coosa High School in 1962. He enlisted in the United States Air Force after graduation and was based at Andover Air Force Base in Holyoke, Massachusetts. There he met his wife of 55 years, Carollee Galavotti, married and began a family. After his honorable discharge from the military, he moved his family to Georgia, and began work in the civil engineering industry with the Corps of Engineers.

Looking to get away from the city and find land to raise his children, he relocated to Cedartown, Georgia and found a job as a freelance artist in the graphics industry with ABC Engravers.

There he was promoted swiftly through the ranks to Operations Manager of the Rome, Georgia facility.

It was then he noticed an overlooked need for narrow web printing presses, and founded CTS Industries in 1980 -a manufacturing company for anilox rollers for the flexographic printing industry. From humble beginnings in a 1750 square foot rental house, to a 60,000 sq ft self-designed manufacturing plant, CTS Industries became an international success in its field.

Never leaving the engineering in his blood, he always incorporated technologies ahead of its time in everything he did, from designing ionic bombardment infusion for metal rollers to engineering a geo-hydro system in his Alabama home 20 years before its time.

Doug and his wife, Carollee, enjoyed traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. He loved tending to his horses he called pets, working on his project sports car, and gardening on his farm he named Perseverance. You could always find him visiting his company about once a week with Jake, his German Shepard.

Mr. Collins is survived by his wife, Carollee Galavotti Collins, daughters Carol (Jim) Mercer, Kim (Trey) Rutledge, Wendy (Wade) Stringer and his son Jeff (Anita) Collins.

Grandchildren Alex (Raquel) Rooks, Misty (Stuart) Hamrick, Chase Grinnell, Tiffany Collins, Katie (Chris) Childers, Austin Rutledge, Gregg Harrison and Michael Harrison. Five great-grandchildren also survive.
