L.C. Mullins Jr.

Lester Clarence Mullins, Jr. (L.C., Moon, Kayo) passed away Monday, February 28, 2022, at his home in Rome, GA at 97.

L.C. was born July 21, 1924, in Whitfield County, GA to Lester Clarence, Sr. and Verta McKay Mullins.

He grew up in Lumber City, GA with his sister Lillian Mullins Camp, twelve years his senior and Henry Joe Mullins, six years his senior. He attended Lumber City High School.

In 1944, L.C. joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He was a proud veteran who served and loved his country, prayed for it and our leaders.

He was known as Moon Mullins at Robins Air Force Base where he retired after working for 35 years as an Aircraft Electrical Inspector. He truly enjoyed his job and often said it didn’t feel like he was going to work every day.

Upon retirement, he relocated from Macon to Rockmart where he found love again and married Avalee Gilbreath Mullins and was happily married for 37 years.

L.C. and Avalee are members of Second Baptist Church of Rockmart where he served as a Deacon for twenty years. They were very active members at Second Baptist and helped wherever a hand was needed. L.C. drove the bus on the yearly fall apple picking trip, served on committees as needed, and they drove elderly friends to doctor’s appointments.

Rockmart was a special place filled with good food, fun times, and family for Kayo and Avalee. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with his sister, Lillian, her husband, Bernice Camp, and their nieces and nephew, Nina Camp Fennell (Junior), Frances Camp Fennell (Allen), Henry “Joe” Camp (Diane), and their families.

They were also blessed to be close to Avalee’s brother Dan Gilbreath and his wife, Vivian, and their families.

L.C. is preceded in death by the mother of his daughters, Anna Louise (Ann) White Mullins, his wife of twenty-nine years, his cherished niece, Nina Camp Fennell, his parents, and his siblings.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Avalee, his daughters, Patricia (Tricia) Chappell (Burney Baldwin) and Susan Pierce (Ken), grandchildren: Stephanie Williams (Scott), Wade Pierce (Gabby), and Adam Pierce (Harley), great grandchildren: Wright McKay Williams and Blair Selena Pierce, brother-in-law, Dan Gilbreath (Vivian) , nieces and nephews: Frances Fennell, Joe Camp (Diane), Sonia Lane (David), Tonya Pilgrim, Kim Gilbreath, numerous other great nieces and nephews and his extended Brookdale family. He loved spending time together, watching and discussing sports, especially football, and was always interested in all his family’s lives. He did a great job of consistently keeping up with what everyone was doing and how they were doing. He loved and treated his girl’s spouses like his own. L.C. will be fondly remembered for his sharp mind, quick wit, friendly smile, and sweet personality. His unwavering faith in his Lord and Savior was known by all who knew him.
