Local youth need to get their tackle boxes out and untangle those fishing lines, because the annual Kids Fishing Rodeo for Polk County returns this coming Saturday, June 8, to the Rockmart area.

Kenview Farms off Highway 113 in Rockmart is once again hosting the summer event for local youth as they get a chance to enjoy a morning and midday around the lake and try to catch their fill for 2024.

Along with fishing, youth have an opportunity to win prizes, enjoy free food with their families and much more.

The event organized locally by the Department of Natural Resources with the help of donations from local businesses and organizations provides kids from ages 15 and under the chance to fish free of charge from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

No minnows are allowed for those who are baiting hooks and dipping just ONE POLE PER CHILD into the lake. There is an 8 fish limit per child.

Chad Cox offered his continued thanks to those partners who have helped out this year. Check out the Kids Fishing Rodeo Facebook Page to see which businesses and organizations contributed this year.

Free food – hot dogs, chips, cookies and drinks – will be available for participants at the free event, and Sno Cones after are being given out too.

Names for the winners of prizes will also be drawn during the event, and include a number of big items including kayaks, coolers, firepits and more.

Hundreds typically flood the shorelines of the lake at Kenview Farms for the opening of summer event that begins early morning, and stay for several hours throughout the day. It’ll wrap up at 2 p.m. on June 8.
