A new reason to stop in and check out what’s happening on West Avenue these days in Cedartown was put up by volunteers in recent days who helped out with a project to light up the night on a local path.
Well, a portion of it anyhow.
Keep Polk Beautiful got the help of volunteers to install new lighting on the bridge over Cedar Creek that connects up to Goodyear Park, which was formerly used by factory workers to get to the Goodyear plant when it was in operations decades ago.
The lighting project hopes to attract more attention to the pathways that are available to locals and visitors alike around Goodyear Park.
“It really to me helps put the area back on the map,” said Jesse Cook, who helped put together the project. “I have big plans for the bridge, especially in installing more lights on the bridge.”
His hopes are that it will attract attention to the bridge and area as a whole, and help preserve the history around the former mill site that ran from the 1890s through until the shutdown of the Goodyear plant in 1983.
The organization restored the bridge – the oldest in Cedartown – and second oldest in Polk County.
It was one of the big projects for 2023 organized by Keep Polk Beautiful in 2023.
All of the lighting is solar powered, so won’t require any additional electrical installation or payments.
Keep Polk Beautiful posted about the completed project on Facebook after it was completed on Friday.
The organization hosts cleanups, hikes and other projects across the year for local residents to participate in and help ensure a vital community for future generations to enjoy.
