Mrs. Kathleen Reed Austin, age 92, of Rome, GA, a former resident of Rockmart, GA, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2024.
Mrs. Austin was born in Rome on August 5, 1931, the daughter of the late George W. Reed and Carrie Elizabeth Smith Reed.
She had been a resident of Rockmart the greater part of her life and was a member of Wimberly Hill Baptist Church.
Mrs. Austin loved her church and enjoyed her memories when she was a member of the Polk County Senior Choir. She retired from the Rockmart Journal following several years of service.
Mrs. Austin enjoyed all kinds of yarn crafts and always made sure everyone had something she made. She enjoyed her time with friends at Winthrop Senior Living, and her favorite activity was playing Bingo.
Mrs. Austin always cherished her time with friends and family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Austin was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Austin, a son, Gene Austin, and a son-in-law, James Loveless.
Mrs. Austin is survived by two daughters, Debra Loveless, and Judith Ann Owens; a son, Gary Lee Austin (Carol); grandchildren, Kelly Austin Howell (Tony), Chris Austin (Jessica), Bryan Owens (LeAnne), Jennifer Forrister (Jeff), and Jamie Forrister; great-grandchildren, Camden Howell, Emma Howell, Bella Owens, Emerson Owens, Wren Owens, Nash Austin, Pace Austin, and Payton Bell,; one great-great-grandson, Haze Lake Howell.
Funeral services for Mrs. Austin will be held on Sunday afternoon, June 30, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Wright, Rev. Butch Tant, and Rev. Billy Swift officiating. Interment will follow in Aragon Cemetery.
Mrs. Austin’s family will receive friends Sunday at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour.
Pallbearers will include Charles Rayburn, Camden Howell, Tony Howell, Payton Bell, Dennis Stewart, and Brian Owens. Chris Austin will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Mrs. Austin’s family extends a special appreciation to the Willowbrook Hospice nurses and a warm thanks to the kind and professional staff of Winthrop Assisted Living.
Mrs. Austin’s family request that flowers be omitted, and memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
