Mr. John Calvin Green Sr., age 93, of Cedartown, GA, passed away Friday, August 9, 2024.
Mr. Green was born on May 26, 1931, to the late G.C. Green and Maude Jones Green. He was a lifetime member of Friendship Baptist Church of Cedartown.
He was a graduate of Cedartown High School class of 1950 and the day after graduating he went to work at Model Supermarket in the meat department. He married the love of his life Zora Mae Mobbs on December 22, 1951.
He was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served his county during the Korean War achieving the rank of Corporal. After returning to Cedartown, he was employed with Atlanta Gas Light for 37 and a half years before retiring and becoming a full time farmer.
He always enjoyed being an outdoorsman and sitting on his front porch watching hummingbirds, above all else he loved time with his family. He was also a proud supporter for over 20 years of the Wounded Warrior Project.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Green was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Zora Mae Green; son, John Green, Jr.; brothers, Vernell Green, Fred Green, Sam Green, Ed Green, and Charles Green.
Mr. Green is survived by his daughters, Janie Green Carter and her husband, Allen, Linda Green Morgan and her husband, Randy; grandchildren, Johnna Green Owens (Heath), Randall McDowell (Tina), Jason McDowell (Jodie), Michael McDowell, Chris Morgan (Connie), and Carissa Carter Boatner (Eric). Fourteen great-grandchildren, sixteen great-great-grandchildren; along with caretaker, neighbor ,and best friend, Brittany Cromer Elliot, aka “muscles”, as well as a number of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Green will be held on Sunday, August 11, at 4:00 PM in the chapel of Smith & Miller Funeral Home with his great grandson, Brandon Crawford and nephew, Jesse Hambrick officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot of Friendship Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will include: Randall Green, Tim Mitchell, Tracy Elliott, Eric Boatner, Garrett Rodgers, and Alex McDowell. Honorary pallbearers will include: Cia Mitchell, Brittany Cromer Elliott, Edwina Green Hambrick, Mac Gamel, Avery (Little Bit) Elliott, and Ruston Scott Crawford.
