Mr. James Elbert “Jim” McCarley

Mr. James Elbert “Jim” McCarley, age 79, of Cedartown, GA passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022 in a Rome medical center.

He was born in Anniston, AL on March 15, 1943 a son of the late Albert McCarley and the late Willie Mae Jackson McCarley.

Mr. McCarley lived the early years of his life in Alabama before entering the military. He served in the United States Air Force for 24 years and was stationed in Colorado, Alabama, Alaska, Vietnam and Kentucky where he taught in the ROTC program. After his retirement from the Air Force he worked for over 20 years as Deputy Chief of Security at Dobbins Air Force Base in Marietta.

Jim loved to play golf, watch the Atlanta Braves and SEC football, especially the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was a member of the Prattville Alabama Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Felix McCarley and a sister Patsy McCarley Walker.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Reeves McCarley to whom he was married on June 5, 1964; three children: Alan McCarley (Melissa), Jada Conring and Bruce McCarley; 12 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Debra Petty; extended family, Starling and Stephanie Powell as well as a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm in the chapel with Rev. Anthony Trawick and Rev. Brent Edwards officiating.

Interment will follow on Wednesday at 1:00 pm CST (2:00 pm EST) in Anniston Memorial Gardens, 4000 US-431Anniston AL with full military honors provided by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will include: Dave Owens, Phillip Zucker, Willie Sindorff, Landon Winfrey, Wade Stringer and Rowan Bussey. Honorary pallbearers will include: Lamar Reynolds, James Thompson, Travis Wilson, Dan Robinson and Cordele Tibbitts.
