Mr. James A. “Jim” Dodgen, age 86, of Rockmart, GA, passed away Friday evening, September 23, 2022, peacefully in the evening at his residence.

He was born in Atlanta, GA., at Grady Hospital July 13, 1936, son to the late Alfred Ransom Dodgen and Donna Mae Simpson.

Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force, 12 January 1954 and served as an Aircraft Jet Engine Mechanic through 5 September 1958. He was fond of his first assignment in Kaufbeuren Air Base, Germany and loved telling stories of his adventures. In 1982 he joined the Air Force Reserves and served as a Loadmaster for two years and then five more years as a Flight Engineer on the C130 Aircraft.

In his younger years Jim enjoyed racing motorcycles and cars. He also enjoyed refurbishing their engines and painting their bodies inside and out. He was a truck driver and drove from California to Canada and all points in-between.

Jim retired from the City of Cedartown as the Maintenance Supervisor.

He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine Alice Chambers Dodgen, his parents A.R. Dodgen and Donna Brook; and son Dennis Charles Guittar.

He is survived by; sisters Susan Brook Damron of Cedartown, GA and Nadine Brook Chandler of Austell, GA; brother Barry Brook of Clarion, PA; sons Cary Guittar of Cedartown, GA; Steven Guittar of New Albany, IN; Eldon Guittar of New Albany, IN; daughters Joy Dodgen Burgamy of Knoxville, TN; April Dodgen Stephenson of Bedford, VA; and Paula Dodgen Culver of Broken Arrow, OK, 19 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Dabbs officiating Interment to follow at Northview Cemetery, Cedartown, GA, with military honors provided by the Honor Guard of Brown-Wright Post 12 American Legion.

Pallbearers include son-in-law’s Wayne Stephenson and Michael Burgamy, grandson’s, Jeff Guittar and Rick Guittar, Tracy Samples, and Michael Statham.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
