DST

A reminder: the time change cometh overnight on Sunday morning. Change those clocks before bedtime because we spring forward once again.

I hate the time change. It is already bad enough that news is a 24-7 job (I do take breaks, but really it comes in between stories going out) but when the time change occurs it is like being hit by a truck. My sleep schedule gets thrown out of whack for like a week, and I become what I consider something akin to an unproductive slug.

Fortunately, I’m not the only one who suffers. I’m not the only one that wants the world to stick with ONE time. Time zones are bad enough. Have you tried traveling back and forth in a day across the border and have to determine in your head when you’ll get there, and when you’ll get back home? A. Nightmare. Especially for someone like me who doesn’t enjoy mathematics at all.

You people with your numbers and symbols. This is why I stick with words.

Anyhow, here’s a few cherry-picked and longer comments on a previous item I posted earlier in the week. These were taken from the Polk.Today Facebook page.

Marla McDonald wrote:

“Daylight Svgs Time…so Seniors w/night driving issues won’t be held prisoners in our homes after 5 p.m. !!!!!” (Agreed, Marla.)

Jannah Sorrell wrote:

“Why would anyone want to stay on standard time? Either leave it on Daylight savings or keep switching it. We all hate standard”

Richard Abrams added:

“Daylight savings. Need as much daylight in the summer as possible so I can get the grass cut after work.” (Really, I think we who command the yard agree with you, Richard.)

There were a few people who said “standard” and only that, but the overwhelming majority of comments sought to keep it at DST year round.

Check online later in the morning for some friendly reminders about what to do this weekend ahead of the time shift. You know, the normal things. Checking smoke detector batteries and such.

Today’s forecast

Oh, you want me to write some news today? You might be out of luck. IT IS GOING TO BE 78 today, 78 Saturday, and 80 on Sunday (my birthday, which I’ll talk about tomorrow.) Legit? I’m excited. I might be outdoors for a while. Temps overnight are down to 53 tonight, 52 on Saturday night and 55 on Sunday night with a chance of rain moving in for Monday. I’ll take the weekend weather in trade for a rainy start of the week. For sure.

Enjoy it while it lasts. March is unlikely done with us.
