A Carroll County Sheriff’s Investigator is still recovering from a gunshot wound sustained after a suspect fired at officers entering his home with a search warrant, and himself as well.

The CCSO, the GBI and even the family have all provided updates over the past two days on what happened and Bristow’s condition.

Lyssa Bristow provided the following via the CCSO’s Facebook page on Wednesday:

“We see everything and we feel everything. The love, the prayers, the thoughts, the well wishes.

We are fighting the good fight and APPRECIATE every little and big thing. It’s does not go without notice 🩷

I love you all and my words will never be able to form a true statement of what I feel inside. My heart is in a thousand pieces right now and I wish I had good news and a true update but we are not out of the woods yet and we need all the love, prayers and well wishes to continue! God is good and he is in control! ❤️‍🩹”

The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to respect the privacy of Bristow’s family at this time.

The latest health update the CCSO provided on Bristow on Wednesday said that medical personnel at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta continued to monitor his condition. They have not provided a further update other than to say “we are currently in a holding pattern.”

They additionally provided the following:

“For those who wish to support Investigator Bristow’s family during this difficult period, we want to emphasize that this is the only legitimate donation site, provided by West Georgia First Responders. You can donate by clicking this link.

We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has reached out, brought food, and offered assistance to the family and to those who work alongside Investigator Bristow. Your generosity and support mean more than words can express.”

GBI officials also posted an update on Wednesday about the officer-involved shooting, and the suspect responsible for the injuries Bristow sustained when he was shot.

Christopher Bly, 40, of Carrollton, was pronounced dead on the scene following the shooting. The GBI said in a release that Bly shot at Bristow and himself when authorities knocked on the door of his home on Don Rich Drive at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. They came to serve a search warrant after it was believed he potentially had child pornography on several electronic devices around his residence.

He had retreated into the home when deputies arrived on scene along with GBI agents. He is then reported to have turned the gun on himself after he hit Bristow.

Bly’s residence was being searched based on information that he had devices that contained illegal materials via the Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit.

They ultimately carried out the search warrant following the shooting, and took several devices that the release stated contained child sexual abuse material.

GBI’s Metro Atlanta Unit is investigating the shooting and will pass along their results to the Carroll County District Attorney’s Office for review.
