Mrs. Frances Stewart Wood

Mrs. Frances Louise Stewart Wood, age 90, of Cedartown passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022.

She was born March 14, 1932, at home in Macon, Georgia to her parents J.D. Stewart, Sr. and Marion Adel Collins Stewart. She attended Forest Lake Academy, an SDA High School in Apopka, Florida, a suburb of Orlando.

She later transferred to Knoxville Academy in Knoxville, Tennessee. While there, she met her best friend Peggy Bartley Ousley. She also met her future sister-in-law, Janice Louise Robinson Stewart, who married her brother J.D. Stewart, Jr.

After she graduated Little Creek Academy, she returned back to Cedartown and married her loving husband, James Ollin Wood on May 22, 1954. She was a faithful member of the Cedartown Seventh Day Adventist Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Good Neighbor Center and food bank in Cedartown.

She was also a charter member of the American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary where she served as secretary, chaplain, and vice president. She enjoyed going to the legion conferences and was always willing to help fluff poppies, gather toys for Santa, and dye easter eggs. She helped cook for the meetings with pot luck and spaghetti dinners, fish fry’s, and she also enjoyed helping with the dances.

Frances loved playing in pool tournaments and rummy games. She was a fantastic cook and would cook enough for an army.

Neighbors, friends, and family knew if they showed up at 5:00, Monday through Friday, they were welcome to eat. Funny thing, she never taught her daughter, Kim, how to cook because she could do it faster!

In addition to her parents, Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband Ollin “T.H.” Wood; brother, J.D. Stewart Jr.; sisters-in-law, Lucille Stewart, Eadie Stewart, Myra Westbrook Rentz; brothers-in-law Donnie Wood and Rudy Wood; nephew, Barry Ollin Stewart; father-in-law, Luther Wood; mother-in-law, Lucille Wood.

She is survived by her daughter Kim Wood Gray and her husband, Jeff; granddaughter, Heather Gray; grandson, Anthony Gray and his wife Maria; great-grandson, Harvey Jame Gray. A host of loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Graveside services for Mrs. Frances Wood will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Northview Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

The family respectfully request that flowers be omitted and memorial donations be made to either The Good Neighbor Center Food Pantry, 71 Woodall Road, Cedartown or to The Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org.

The Smith and Miller Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Frances Wood.
