Floyd is partnering with Floyd Against Drugs and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department for a drug drop-off event Saturday, April 24, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Items accepted include any opened, unopened, expired or unused over-the counter and prescription medications, and unused diabetes supplies. They can be dropped off at The Breast Center at Floyd parking lot. The Breast Center at Floyd is located in the Harbin Clinic Cancer Center at 255 W. Fifth Ave. in Rome.

Dale Styer, Executive Director of Floyd Against Drugs, said there are three primary reasons for hosting drug drop-off events. “First and foremost is to keep these drugs out of the reach of people who might misuse them,” she said.

“Second is to give people an opportunity to clean out their medicine cabinets and easily dispose of their medicines without getting out of their car. They pull up, hand the items over, and we take them. Last, we want to make sure that the public does not dispose of them by flushing them and putting them in the water system,” Styer said.

All dropped-off items will be bagged and delivered to the Drug Enforcement Administration for disposal.
