A day of family fun is planned for the Polk County Historical Society museum as they partner with FERST Readers to bring Story Times and Hat Party to life on Saturday, January 18.

The event brings together opportunities for youth to enjoy story time and parents to check out a vintage collection of hats from 2 to 4 p.m. at the museum on West Avenue in Cedartown.

Refreshments are planned for the event as well.

Alongside a trio of books being read – “I am The Cat in the Hat,” “Who Took the Farmer’s Hat?” and “Caps for Sale,” a Cat in the Hat bingo and photo opportunities with Winnie the Pooh will also available.

FERST Readers of Polk County provides local youth from birth to five years old the opportunity receive a monthly book in the mail appropriate for their age. The hope is to help increase childhood literacy and give participants in the program a leg up when they begin school in their reading abilities.

Those interested in participating in FERST Readers can find more information at the local chapter’s Facebook page, or visit ferstreaders.org.

The Polk County Historical Society is also holding a member drive to start the New Year. Learn more on their site, polkhist.com.
