Mrs. Dorothy Lanham Godfrey, age 90, of Aragon, GA passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Rockmart Health in Rockmart, GA.
She was born September 11, 1932 in Portland, GA, the daughter of the late Rev. Lester King Lanham and the late Mrs. Hazel Roberson Lanham.
She worked at Undergarment in Cartersville, Integrated Mills in Aragon, and retired from Polk School District. She was a member of the Euharlee Baptist Church in Aragon. She was a great housewife and mother. She also entertained and prepared Sunday meals for all of her family every week.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Donald Godfrey; a grandson, Corey Godfrey; sister, Barbara Atkins; brother, Lester K. Lanham, Jr.; brothers-in-law-, Joseph Rayburn and Carlton Godfrey; sisters-in-law, June and Martha Jo Godfrey.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Michael (Charlotte) Godfrey of Rockmart; sister, Shirley Rayburn of Aragon; brother-in-law, Eddie Atkins of Cedartown; grandson, Craig (Katie) Godfrey, and Christy Godfrey. She has five great-grandchildren, Carli, Canaan, Anna, Emily, and Samuel Godfrey all of Cartersville. Survivors also include her nieces, Leigh (Rick) Lundy of Cedartown, Kristen (Drew) Dempsey of Rome, and nephew Eric Rayburn of Aragon. She also has several great nieces and a great nephew. In addition to her immediate family are her caregivers of several years, Mrs. Marlene Blackthorne, Mrs. Tammy Davis, and Mrs. Sandra Thompson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Euharlee Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Tucker and Rev. Billy Chambers officiating. A eulogy will be given by Mrs. Godfrey’s great-granddaughter, Carli Godfrey. Interment will follow in Aragon Cemetery.
Mrs. Godfrey will lie in state at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until the funeral hour.
The following gentlemen will serve as active pallbearers: Canaan Godfrey, Terry Spencer, David Johnson, Drew Dempsey, Rick Lundy, and Mike Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will include: Eddy Atkins and Randall Strickland.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home.
